One of the course’s highlights is that they created an entire module on academic proofreading because it is the largest market for proofreaders.

The course consists of 13 modules that can be completed in up to 50 hours. The information is presented in a readable format as well as in short tutorial videos.

Each module includes an end-of-module assessment as well as quizzes to test your newly acquired knowledge. You can also download sample documents to practice your proofreading skills.

The course is written in British English and is intended to teach you how to proofread in American, British, and Australian dialects. This includes explaining differences in spelling, accents, and pronunciation.

Speaking of the course, it contains:

8 modules with 40+ lessons.

Their whole training is based on the 17th Edition of the Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS), which is the most common style guide for general proofreading. 

It offer some guidance on grammar, punctuation, and spelling, but their teaching style is primarily practical. This means you’ll be putting what you’ve learned into practice by downloading and proofreading practice documents in accordance with the CMOS style guide.

Aside from that, they go above and beyond by teaching you how to set-up your own freelance proofreading business and how to market it in the industry.

Knowadays is the best option

If you want more training in punctuation, grammar, spelling, and so on.
If you want to learn how to edit texts for flow, tone, readability, and style.
If you’re fine with generic rule teaching.

Proofread Anywhere, on the other hand, is the best choice for learning to proofread with the CMOS style guide.

If you want to learn proofreading with the CMOS style guide.
If you want to learn how to use a style guide and gain practical experience that will come in handy when working with online proofreading services.
If you want to start your own freelance proofreading business.

2. Do They Provide Any Certificate?

A certificate is important because it proves that you completed a course or training successfully.

If you’re going to spend money learning a skill, you should definitely get a certificate to get more eyeballs from the clients.

So, which course offers certification? Let us find out.

Knowadays Certification

To receive the digital certificate, you must successfully complete the course. For this, you must pass all three exams (two proofreading tests and one formatting test) with at least 70% score.

If you fail the exam on your first attempt or do not receive a distinction, you can pay to retake your final assessment.

Proofread Anywhere Certification

Proofread Anywhere, on the other hand, wants you to score at least 90% on their final hand-graded exam to get your certificate of completion.

Verdict: Knowadays Wins

As Knowadays is accredited by Continuing Professional Development (CPD), their certificate of completion will hold more value.

However, I also like Proofread Anywhere’s strict criteria of achieving 90% in order to receive the certificate.

It not only motivates students to do their best, but it also demonstrates that you worked hard to obtain the certificate.

So, in terms of value, the Knowadays certificate is superior, but I also like the Proofread Anywhere certification criteria.

3. Which Course Has Better Pricing?

Not everyone is rich!

As a result, the course must have a reasonable price that will appeal to everyone interested in becoming a proofreader..

So, did both courses perform well in this section? Let’s find out!

Knowadays Price

Their flagship course, “Becoming a Proofreader,” is priced at $399. They also offer monthly payment plans for the US and UK buyers.

Proofread Anywhere Price

It offers two price levels for the General Proofreading Course:

• Ignite: $397
• Ignite Plus: $497

If you want to get a discount (usually $100) on the Ignite or Ignite Plus, you can attend Proofread Anywhere’s free webinar, as there is a good chance she will offer one.

Verdict: Knowadays Wins

Although Proofread Anywhere’s Ignite plan is less expensive, it does not include a certificate of completion, access to the final assessment test, & any other benefits.

As a result, you must pay a total of $497 to gain access to all course benefits.

However, you only need to pay $399 to get everything included in the Knowadays course. So, without a doubt, it is more affordable.

4. Which Course Provides Better Support?

Assume you bought a proofreading course and went through its content. You suddenly have a doubt or don’t understand a section.

What will you do?

Obviously, you will address your concerns to the course creator.

But what if there isn’t any support? Then you’ll have problems that go unresolved.

That is why, when investing in a course, a support feature is a must. Let’s see if we got the same facility from these two courses.

Knowadays Support

Their tutors are available at all times to address your concerns. All you have to do is send an email to get help.

If that isn’t enough, and you require more personalized assistance, you can even schedule a FREE TUTORING CALL, which is amazing.

Another great thing is that if you fail the final assessment, they provide detailed feedback on where you should focus your efforts. This will help you score higher on your next attempt.

Though there is no peer support or community (more on that later), their support staff is excellent, and they are available whenever you need them.

Proofread Anywhere Support

You can get in touch with their support team by filling out a form on their website. They usually respond to your inquiries within 48 hours.

If you haven’t received a response, you can also email them directly.

Speaking of one-on-one assistance, they too provide this facility. However, there is a catch: it is not free.

A 30-minute session will cost you about $50.

Though I dislike the fact that you have to pay for this when it should be free, many students find it useful.

But wait, there’s more! 

They also provide you with access to a private Facebook group (more on that later) where you can discuss, share problems, and assist one another.

It is managed by a staff member who will also help you if your peer does not respond.

Verdict: Knowadays Wins

Though both offer email support, I prefer Proofreading Academy’s free tutoring call session, which is more than enough to answer any questions you have about the course.

One-on-one interaction is far superior to email support because you can get answers to questions right at the spot.

Not everyone provides such a free one-on-one service. So, kudos to them.

It would have been even better if they had provided a Proofread Anywhere-style Facebook group for peer-to-peer interaction (more on that later).

However, the good news is that they are working on building a community.

5. Which Course Provides a Supportive Community?

A community is a place where students can interact and share their ideas and thoughts. This is an excellent place to stay motivated and help one another with problems.

Not only that, but their second group is more valuable because you can get advice from experienced proofreaders, as well as job leads and referrals.

6. Which Course Offer a Trial Plan?

Who doesn’t enjoy trying out a product before spending their hard-earned money on it?

Even though you can read all of the reviews online, nothing beats a free trial.

It’s a good way to see if the teaching style and content are in line with what you’re expecting. Though you won’t be able to access the entire course (obviously), you will get a taste of what to expect.

We all appreciate refunds as buyers because they make us feel safe before investing money in a course.

This ensures that if the course fails to deliver what it promises, we will be able to recoup our investment.

With that in mind, let’s see if these courses provide refunds.

Knowadays Refund Policy

Their refund policy is a bit confusing, but don’t worry, I’ll clear it up for you.

You can request a full refund if you haven’t accessed the course within 14 days of purchase.
If you have accessed a few modules within 14 days of purchase, you can request a refund of the un-accessed parts, less a $35 administration fee.
Refunds will not be granted after 14 days.

Proofread Anywhere Refund Policy

They do not offer refunds, as they have stated that:

Due to the sensitive, proprietary nature of the copyrighted content, Proofread Anywhere does not refund tuition fees for any reason, except as otherwise specified on a checkout page or sales page for a product offered.

Previously, they offered refunds. However, some people took advantage of this scheme and requested a refund after completing the course, even if they enjoyed it.

This was a setback, and they eventually stopped giving refunds.

I like Knowaday’s refund model because it’s a fair way to give refunds without defrauding either the buyer or the seller.

It would have been fantastic if Proofread Anywhere had offered refunds based on the same model.

8. Which Course Offers Work Opportunities?

What could be better than getting a job right after finishing the course?

You won’t have to look for work all over, which is a problem for beginners with no prior experience.

So, do these courses provide such opportunities? Let’s take a look.

Knowadays Work Opportunity

If you score 80% or higher on their final test, they will offer you a job as a freelance proofreader with Proofed.

It will take about one or two weeks after you have achieved the required score before you can start working with them.

Regarding the work, you will begin with a trial period in which you will only have access to smaller documents of up to 750 words.

It may take some time to complete the trial period. However, if you are active and work on tasks every day, you will be able to finish them quickly and progress to larger, more lucrative projects.

You will be paid for each job you complete, and your earnings will be transferred to your account via bank transfer at the end of the month.

Proofread Anywhere Work Opportunity

When you pass the hand-graded exam, your name will be added to the list of preferred outsourcers for Self-Publishing School (SPS).

SPS is a book production team composed of proofreaders, editors, designers, formatters, and other experts.

I believe Knowadays job opportunities are better because you can actually access jobs through their job board, which works on a first-come, first-served basis.

Proofread Anywhere, on the other hand, only provides a listing at Self-Publishing School. This means you must either wait for clients to choose you or make an effort to be chosen by clients.

This is not to say it isn’t good. Actually, this is a fantastic opportunity for you to find new clients who will be a recurring source of new prospects for your proofreading business.

However, in terms of actual job placement, Knowadays is currently better.
